[oc] Synthesis tools

Hi, I was just wondering what synthesis tools the OpenCore developers are
using... I haven't managed to find any free synthesis (to target 
FPGA/CPLDs) tools except for Icarus Verilog which has limited support for
Xilinx parts, and the thing on the Xilinx web site which wasn't working 
the last time I tried it. Are there any others I've missed? What are the
cheapest usable commercial synthesisers, and how much do they cost? Do any
of them do educational discounts?
