The SVGA server at
http://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/XFree86/3.3.5/binaries/Linux-ix86-libc5/Servers/XSVGA.tgz
works for me on a hard disk installation under mu v12r2. Of course your
video card has to have enough memory for the number of pixels times the
number of bytes per pixel that you are trying for. I get 16bpp (approx.
64K colours) at 800x600 on a Compaq 5250 laptop.
