About two weeks ago, the question going around was how to permit other users
to start X-Windows without becoming root.
I believe the trick is to modify startx so that the X server is started as
root (sudo?) and X window manager is started as the user. Can't get X up on
my system to verify (possibly my bizarre hardware). Hope this helps.
