ATI cards are normaly good supported in XFree86, but there are some
problems reported with newer Rage LTs. May be you want to download
the latest X-Server, but it has to be one for libc5!!! This is very
important.
But in general, the svga server will not work with ati chips, that
is done (in your case) by the mach64 server. So you need to get
this.
For LCD Displays you may be allso be limited to the full resolution.
(happend on my laptop, which only runs with 800x600, nothing smaler)
Allso the Refresh freq. has to be close to 60 Hz for most LCD's.

This is in most cases a problem. Winmodems are very special designed
for windows and seldom with free documents. ;-((
But I don't know too much about Winmodems, some may run.
