Mecklermedia Corp.'s MecklerWeb opened its electronic doors Tuesday to corporations seeking to advertise products and services over the Internet. Companies pay a $25,000 annual membership fee and another $25,000 for Mecklermedia's help in designing an online brochure. Andersen Consulting was the first to pay up: "We have to learn how to communicate effectively on this new medium," says a partner in the firm. MecklerWeb's chief technical officer urged corporations to "slip on your asbestos boxers and listen to what people say," on the Internet.
