Maintenance:
on Physical Drives
To Execute Maintence Tasks on a Specific Hard Drive:
1. Select by single mouse click on a drive icon representing the specific hard
drive. Select a hard drive in other drive enclosure by clicking its tab button.
2. The Functions sub-window provides four maintenance functions: Copy and Replace,
Format/Unformat, Media Scan, and Assign Spare.
To perform Media Scan:
Step 1: Select a hard drive from the Front View window. When selected, its drive slot number displays. Step 2: Set desired values for the Operation Mode and Operation Priority. Step 3: Click OK to proceed. You may switch to the Task Under Process window to see the progress. To Maintain Spare:
Step 1: Select a hard drive from the Front View window. When selected, its drive slot number displays. Step 2: Select the Global Spare or Dedicated Spare check box to proceed. Step 3: Click Next to proceed. Step 4: Click Finish to complete the process. To Copy and Replace:
Copy and replace can be used to expand the capacity of a configured array. When completed, the added capacity automatically displays under the logical drive or logical volume "Expand" option. Step 1: Select, in the Front View window, a new drive that will be used to replace another hard drive. Step 2: Select a drive that is to be replced, oftenly it is the member of a logical drive that has smaller capacity. And the new drive can be one that is purchased later and has a larger capacity. Step 3: Click Next to proceed. Step 4: Read text in the confirm box carefully and then click Finish to proceed.
Step 5: Repeat this process to replace every member of the array with larger drives.
To Clone a data drive:
This function allows you to manually clone a member of LD. When clone is completed, you can replace a drive suspected of faulty behaviors with a healthy one. To format Reserve Space:
This function allows you to manually format or unformat a small section of a hard drive (256MB). This section is used for storing configuration data and manager programs if the manager is installed using the 3rd installation scheme. To Idenfy Drive: This function allows you to idenfy a specific disk drive by starting drive tray LED flashing. Click on the drive you wish to maintain and click the Apply button. To Scan/Add/Clear Drive: This function only apprar when you click on an empty drive slot on a Fibre, SAS and SCSI host RAID subsystem. The feature enable user to add a drive entry when the drive slot is empty. The created entry can be deleted by applying Clear Drive Status option.
