Install Instructions ==================== 1. Download and unpack the zip file. 2. Create 2 new dlopy disks with dd if=Image1 of=/dev/fd0 dd if=Image2 of=/dev/fd0 3. Boot the target system with floppy disk number one The system will boot into ELKS 0.0.82 and the prompt will be as shown below :- ELKS Distribution Edition Installation ... Kernel Version 0.0.82 Login with "root" to commence Installation. login: 4. As instructed login with root. 5. The system logs into fdisk. - If dos fdisk was used prior to commencing install then verify that /dev/da1 is type 81 and bootable otherwise create a partition. Cylinders 0-151 should be fine. (I have had problems creating partitions from scratch here - hence the dos recommendation at the moment) - Write the partition table - quit fdisk 6. The install will now go on to make the filesystem before requesting the insertion of disk 2 and a reboot as shown below :- Now proceeding to set up /dev/bda1 as an Elks partition Now making FileSystem 6666 inodes 20000 blocks Firstdatazone=215 (215) Zonesize=1024 Maxsize=268966912 Now insert disk 2 and reboot to continue the installation. 7. As requested insert disk 2 and alt-ctrl-del. 8. The system will reboot and the display will show as follows :- ELKS DISTRIBUTION INSTALL .. Login with "root" to continue installation. login: 9. Login with root as instructed. The system will now go through the process of installing ELKS to /dev/bda1 before finally setting the partition as bootable. Various progress messages will be displayed as the install continues. 10. When the installation is complete the screen will display as follows :- Installation is complete Hit return to boot into your new Elks system. Thankyou for Installing the Elks Distribution 11. Installation is now complete and after reboot (and removal of floppy !) the system should start up into the newly installed ELKS system.
