Install Instructions ==================== 1. Download and unpack the zip file. 2. Create a new floppy disk with dd if=Image2 of=/dev/fd0 3. Boot the target system with the floppy disk. The system will boot into ELKS 0.0.82 and start fdisk as shown below :- Welcome to the Elks Distribution Edition ======================================== The Installation will now commence for the following :- ------------------------------------ Distribution Edition Version : 0.0.4 Kernel Version : 0.1.0 ------------------------------------ Now entering the Hard Drive Configuration stage. Please note :- This version of the Distribution Edition will only install to a blank hard drive. It is also advised that you creat a partition with DOS fdisk before commencing the install. The partition should be greater that 20Mb in size. Now entering fdisk. Please set up bda1 to be around 20Mb c/h/s=35/4/17Command (? for help): 4. In fdisk :- - If dos fdisk was used prior to commencing install then verify that /dev/bda1 is type 80 and bootable otherwise create a partition. Cylinders 0-151 should be fine. (I have had problems creating partitions from scratch here - hence the dos recommendation at the moment) - Write the partition table - quit fdisk 5. The system will now proceed with installation of ELKS without the need for any further assistance. 6. The installation should progress showing progress messages as follows :- Now proceeding to set up /dev/bda1 as an Elks partition Now making FileSystem 6666 inodes 20000 blocks Zonesize=1024 Maxsize=268966912 Mounting Hard Drive Making Directory Structure Commencing System Transfer Now transfering binaries Now transfering /etc Now transfering system binaries Now transfering /usr Now initialising utmp Now configuring Devices Now completing install resets System Transfer is now complete Now making the system bootable 7. When the installation is complete the following will be the last messages displayed :- Installation is complete Hit return to boot into your new Elks system. Thankyou for Installing the Elks Distribution 8. Installation is now complete and after reboot (and removal of floppy !) the system should start up into the newly installed ELKS system.
