Subject: Greetings from Canada

Hello. I got the urge to speak with Esperantists via issue 43 of Linux Gazette. I'm a blind Esperantist who lives in Canada, and I'm learning Esperanto. My Esperanto is bad but that doesn't matter. I use Windows, and Linux with Speakup, to read the computer text. Unfortunately, when I write programs, they aren't worth shit. I hope this message goes to Esperantists at Linux Gazette. --Tyler]

Saluton Tyler!

[Hi Tyler! I'm the only Esperantist on the staff of LG. I'm glad that Speakup works for you on Linux -- even in Esperanto! I translate stories into Esperanto as a hobby, or at least I start to... I rarely finish due to the long time required. My own history with Linux is in this article: http://linuxgazette.net/120/orr.html

We tried to establish an Esperanto translation of LG but it failed due to the amount of labor necessary. There are two or three articles somewhere... I forget where.] Tyler, please address emails to The Answer Gang (tag at linuxgazette.net) so that we can publish them in the Mailbag, and perhaps you will have a conversation with other Linux Experantists.

--- End forward --

Tyler, bonvole adresi e-posxtojn al La Respondbando (tag at linuxgazette.net), por ke ni povos eldoni ilin en la Posxtsako (Mailbag). Eble vi renkontros/konversacios kun aliaj Esperanto-parolantaj linuksistoj tie. En kiu parto de Kanado vi logxas? Cxu via nacilingvo estas angla aux franca?

[Tyler, please address emails to The Answer Gang (tag at linuxgazette.net) so we can publish them in the Mailbag. Maybe you'll meet/converse with other Esperanto-speaking Linuxers there. Which part of Canada do you live in? Is your native language English or French?]

I don't know about espeak or VA servers. "Can't code worth a shit" would literally be "Mia programado valoras fekon" (my programming is worth shit), or more likely "Mia programado fekas" (my programming shits/is shit).

The traditional Esperanto equivalent is -acx, the universal suffix for "bad quality/fucking/sucks/shoddy". So "mia programadacxo" (my bad-quality programming). From that you can derive "mia programado acxas" (my programming sucks). If you really want to say exactly how badly it sucks: "mia fekprogramado" (my shit programming), "mia programado fekas" (my programming shits), "mi programas feknenion" (I program shit-nothing), etc. Also useful is "hundinido!" (hint: it refers to a female dog's offspring). Or if you're really mad: "zamenhundenido!" (taking the name of Esperanto's founder in vain).
