Welcome to iPup To install: 1) copy these files to a USB stick which is formatted with FAT16 (default on USB sticks bought in stores) or FAT32 (faster on newer sticks and PCs): initrd.gz pup_214R-iPup.... vmlinuz zdrv_214R.sfs syslinux.cfg usbflash 2) install the syslinux bootloader to the USB stick. There is a Linux and Windows version included. You can get syslinux either via your system's package manager, or get it from: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/ On Linux: syslinux /dev/sdX1 X stands for the drive letter. IMPORTANT! Make sure you get this drive letter correct, or you may overwrite your existing boot loader. With "fdisk -l" you can see all the drives curently recognised by the system. On Windows: syslinux.exe D: 3) Reboot and enjoy iPup The new boot splash screen ----------------------------------------------- Type "pebble" or vga=785 at the boot prompt to see the splash screen. This is currently only a demo which goes half way. If you have more than one pup_save file you will not see the selection screen. You should know the number, or type 0 for none, when you see a cursor flash inside the graphic. This happens only a few seconds after the screen first appears. These limitations only apply to the demo because it only goes half way through the boot process, literally. Hence, you will see the screen overwritten by text near the end of the boot process. 4) Tell us what you think -------------------- Extras: initrd.gz.ORI the original "boring" init without splash boot "monkey-pebble_initrd.gz" offers a 3D rotating image as splash boot screen! Usage: make sure "vga=785" is in your syslinux.cfg file, or type the option at the boot prompt.
